Matchbook Notecards
Transform your leftover scraps into notepads that you can take anywhere. Make a dozen and throw one in each bag or backpack so you’re never at a loss for words – or paper. I used bookbinding scraps but office paper and cereal boxes work just as well.
You Will Need:
- Leftover cardstock or stiff paper (cereal boxes, old greeting cards, etc.) cut 3:1.
- Scrap paper cut to match
- Scissors or paper cutter
- Stapler
- Paper cutter with perforation blade or Ponce Wheel (optional)
How To:

| 1. Fold catch flap up from bottom | 2. Fold top edge down from top |
3. Top creases closeup |
4. Trimming scrap paper to fit inside cover |
5. Stapling pages in |
- Place cardstock facedown and fold the bottom up to form a catch flap for the matchbook. Crease lightly. The flap pictured is about one third the width of the paper – or one inch.
- Fold top edge down to cover a little more than half of the catch flap. Crease well.
- Make a second crease just above the crease you just made (the edge should now cover a little less than half of the catch flap). Crease well. If you are adding a lot of scrap paper “notes”, you may want to increase the space between these folds.
- Using finished cardstock cover as a guide, fold and trim your scrap paper to fit inside. This may be done in batches if necessary.
- Place paper inside matchbook cover and secure bottom flap with two or more staples. When stapling, make sure to place them low enough so the top flap of the cover can move freely when finished.
Pictured here is 9 x 3″ paper but any 3:1 ratio works. If you’re ambitious, you can use a ponce wheel or perforation blade to make tear away sheets.
